New Facility Saves $20 Million, Accelerates Waste Processing

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Oak Ridge’s EM program recently began operations at a newly constructed facility that will accelerate the completion of remote-handled transuranic (TRU) waste processing at the site by two years and save taxpayers more than $20 million.

Two Peer Review Processes Help EM Achieve Cost, Schedule Targets in Environmental Cleanup Mission

LOS ALAMOS, N.M., August 6, 2012—For the fourth consecutive year, Los Alamos National Laboratory’s TRU Waste Program has shipped a record number of transuranic (TRU) waste shipments to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad, N.M, for permanent disposal.

Oak Ridge Commemorates Past, Moves Forward with Cleanup of Historic K-25 Site

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Representatives from federal, state, and local historic preservation groups gathered earlier this month to celebrate the formal completion of an agreement that preserves the historic contributions of Oak Ridge’s K-25 site to the Manhattan Project and Cold War.
