What Others Are Doing Experts throughout the world agree that the best solution for disposing of nuclear waste is to place it in facilities deep underground. In addition to the United States, twelve other countries are actively working on programs to safely dispose of their nuclear waste. Despite some differences in their programs, all of these countries plan to eventually use some type of deep geologic repository.
