The City of Bonners Ferry, Idaho proposes to use $200,000 of Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funds for aerator upgrades at the existing Bonners Ferry Wastewater Treatment Lagoon. The total acreage of the parcel the plant is sited on is 24.8 acres. The total acreage of the lagoon ponds is 5.5 acres. No additional acreage will be used with this project. The project will replace the existing 3 aerators in the lagoon with 6 high efficiency floating aerators, increasing the amount of oxygen in the treatment ponds. The increased oxygen will reduce the amount of anaerobic decomposition occurring in the ponds, which will decrease the amount of methane produced. The additional aerators will consume additional electricity, but the reduction in methane production will result in a net reduction in equivalent carbon dioxide production.
