Archaeology Program
The purpose of our Archaeology program is to identify and protect cultural and historic sites in the Yucca Mountain area.

Crater Flat Crescent

To accomplish this purpose, we work with professional archaeologists from the Desert Research Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada. This program complies with the guidelines of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and has a current agreement with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.

Our major goal is to preserve evidence of those that came before us. Prior to any new work at Yucca Mountain, experts conduct archaeological surveys to assure we do not adversely impact areas containing cultural resources. Archaeologists also periodically monitor known cultural resource sites in the area to ensure their protection and integrity.
