Study area at Box Canyon, Idaho

Study area at Box Canyon, Idaho.

Box Canyon is located in the Eastern Snake River Plain in southeast Idaho. The Canyon runs through thick layers of volcanic rock, which contain numerous fractures. From the canyon walls, scientists are able to observe how water infiltrates the various layers of rock as it moves through the fractures. Data from this analogue site were used to verify our water infiltration and flow models.
